Lying?

Here’s the situation:

You suspect your child is lying but have absolutely no proof.  You have no way of knowing exactly what happened except for asking him.  He is a pre-schooler.

Here’s the question:

Is it worse to accept his story, in which case you risk accepting a lie which then reinforces the habit of lying?  Or is it worse to refuse to accept his story, in which case you risk frustrating him if he’s telling the truth, thereby doing him a large injustice?

One Response to “Lying?”

  1. Wow. Tough question. Always better to show trust if you can’t prove the lie. But boy, if you can prove it, the consequences better make him regret it in a big way!
