School on Friday? Who does that?

We decided to ditch school on Friday to drive a few hours to the zoo.  Baby girl couldn’t have been a better traveller, and the boys had a great time as well.  Of course, their favorite part of the zoo had nothing to do with the animals.  It was the 3-D motion dinosaur ride.

The zoo has an endangered species carousel ride.  Each seat is carved into the shape of an endangered animal and has a name plate telling what type of animal it is.  It’s a long-standing tradition that my husband and boys pretend they’re racing each other when riding the carousel.  This is how it came to be that my middle kiddo gleefully uttered this sentence:

“Dad, you’re just no match for my Somali Wild Ass!”

In a family where even the word “gosh” is forbidden, that was enough to send hubby & me into fits of laughter.  🙂

When the temperature suddenly dropped 15 degrees, I learned a valuable lesson.  The Moby Wrap can, in a pinch, double as a not-so-stylish shawl!

On a completely different note, I had a lot of fun last night listening to hubby reading to our eldest.  They were at the part of The Hobbit where Bilbo and Gollum are asking each other riddles.  I enjoyed our eldest’s attempts to guess the answers.

  1. Did you go south? We just went to that zoo & my kids still LOVE to say that name out loud, giggle, then say it again, because that IS it’s name afterall!

    Glad you guys had fun!!!

  2. Yep! It was a fun trip. Someday we’ll have to break out of our rut — both with the zoo we go to and where we eat when we visit 🙂
